Help Using Slackin' Church
Setup Instructions
Setup should take anywhere from 5-10 minutes. You or a Slack administrator for your team will need to do the following:-
Add two webhook integrations in Slack (screenshot), Incoming WebHooks and Outgoing WebHooks, and configure them as in the following steps.
-
Configure the Incoming WebHook (screenshot)
This allows Slackin' Church to send data and post messages into your team's Slack.-
You can pick any channel to post to; in the demo we use
#test
but it doesn't really matter. - Name the bot something like "Hacktoolkit Bot", and upload the Hacktoolkit logo that you can grab here, or pick an icon emoji of your choice.
-
Save the randomly generated Webhook URL and enter it into the
slack_webhook_url
field on the settings form.
Important! Do not share this URL with anyone else. If it ever gets compromised, you will need to regenerate another one.

Configure the Outgoing WebHook (screenshot)
This allows your team's Slack to send special commands to Slackin' Church.
-
Add the trigger words (special commands) for Slackin' Church to process:
htk:,bible:,pray4me:,pray4:,weather:
Note: trigger words may get added over time, so we'll be in touch if you ever need to update the integration (also updated here). -
Set the outgoing URL to:
https://slackin.church/api/webhooks/slack
-
Save the randomly generated Token and enter it into the
slack_webhook_token
field on the settings form.
Important! Do not share this token with anyone else. If it ever gets compromised, you will need to regenerate another one. - Name the bot something like "Hacktoolkit Bot", and upload the Hacktoolkit logo that you can grab here, or pick an icon emoji of your choice.

Additionally, for best experience, create the Slack channels:
#prayer-requests
#prayer-closet
#bible-one-year
#operation-world
- You should be all set!
